I have had the unfortunate experience of making multiple calls on a neighbor who keeps burning late at night (in city limits), and every time the fire dept. responds they simply give him a warning and nothing is ever done. He has received multiple verbal warnings from the crews and yet every time they show up they act like it's the first time they've been there. The smoke fills our house at night to the point of my little girls crying about their burning eyes and just last night I explained this to the dispatcher and she refused to send them out stating it was only a "large candle." Ever seen "a large candle" fill a house with smoke and have a flame over a foot tall from 200 ft away? Maybe it's just the ones near me who are incompetent, but if it's the entire dept....we're screwed. So much for caring about the health and well-being of the children of Elkhart!
